A conference held in Isiolo last week brought together key stakeholders to address the urgent challenges facing Northern Kenya, paving the way for a more resilient and prosperous future.
The event underscored the vital importance of climate adaptation in driving sustainable development across the region.
Historically, Northern Kenya—especially the counties of Isiolo, Marsabit, and Samburu—has struggled with a complex mix of poverty, food insecurity, and the worsening impacts of climate change.
The region’s heavy dependence on agriculture and livestock, combined with its arid climate, has made it particularly vulnerable to the increasing frequency and severity of droughts.
The conference aims to shift the region’s focus from reactive crisis management to proactive adaptation and sustainable development.
By bringing together government officials, private sector leaders, and community representatives, the event fostered a collaborative environment for identifying and implementing solutions.
A key highlight was the presentation of the Impact for Northern Kenya (INK) Fund, a $43 million impact investing vehicle funded by USAID Kuza.
Since its launch in 2021, the fund has played a crucial role in supporting over 12,000 Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), resulting in the creation of more than 25,000 jobs.
